Semen Indonesia sets US$449m aside for expansion in 2017
09 January 2017Indonesia: Semen Indonesia has prepared US$449m to be spent on capital expansion upgrades in 2017 to support government infrastructure targets. The plan includes four cement plants with a total production capacity of 10.5Mt/yr, according to the Jakarta Post. The Rembang plant in Central Java and the Indarung VI plant in Padang, West Sumatra are in the final stages of construction. New plants in Aceh and Kupang are also being planned for completion in 2019 and 2020 respectively, although these projects will require additional funding. The cement producer is also planning to build two packaging plants in Bengkulu and Maluku and a 30MW waste heat power plant at its plant in Tuban, East Java.
Company corporate secretary Agung Wiharto added that Semen Indonesia has forecast a 5% rise in demand for cement in 2017 to 70Mt. This is mainly due to government plans to boost infrastructure development across the country.
Minister inaugurates Ain El Kebira cement plant
06 January 2017Algeria: Abdesslam Bouchouareb, the Minister of Industry and Mining, has inaugurated the second production unit at the Ain El Kebira (SCAEK) cement plant near Setif. The new unit will have a cement production capacity of 2Mt/yr, according to the Algerian Press Service. The plant is controlled by the government backed Groupe Industriel des Ciments d'Algérie (GICA).
Bouchouare announced that the 1.5Mt/yr Adrar cement plant is due to be commissioned by April 2017 and the 2Mt/yr Chlef plant by October 2017. He added that national cement production is expected to increase by 5.5Mt/yr in 2017, allowing Algeria to export its surplus by early 2018.
Cross River state secures licences to set up cement plant
05 January 2017Nigeria: The government of Cross River state has secured operational licenses from the Federal Government to build its own cement plant and limestone quarry in the Akamkpa region of the state. George O’Ben-Etchi, Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development, made the announcement following a meeting with the Solid Minerals Development Board, according to the Daily Trust newspaper. The plant and quarry are intended to compliment the state’s Superhighway project.
US: Drake Cement has applied to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to revise its air quality permit in order increase its clinker production at its Paulden plant by 10% to 0.73Mt/yr from 0.66Mt/yr at present. The cement producer is required to make the application as the increased production could increase its emission of particulate matter. The plant is also requesting a removal of the rolling three-hour clinker production rate limit of 83.3t/hr and an increase in the allowable hours of quarry crushing operation. The ADEQ will be holding a public hearing on the revision on 19 January 2017.
Yamama Cement raises US$267m to build new plant
03 January 2017Saudi Arabia: Yamama Cement has signed two finance agreements to raise US$267m towards building a new cement plant. It has signed a deal to raise US$200m from the National Commercial Bank and US$67m from the Samba Financial Group. The deals are both for three years.
Java governor willing to shut Rembang cement plant
21 December 2016Indonesia: Ganjar Pranowo, the governor of Central Java, is willing to shut down Semen Indonesia’s Rembang cement plant if the central government approves it. Ganjar made a statement in response to a protest staged by Rembang residents against the cement plant following a Supreme Court ruling in favour of the residents, according to Tempo magazine. He added that he has sought advice from the government including the presidential office, the Environmental Affairs Ministry and the Ministry of State Owned Enterprises. Ganjar has established a team to conduct a study and he has until 17 January 2017 to respond to the ruling.
StandartCement to build US$638m cement plant in Belgorod region
21 December 2016Russia: StandartCement plans to build a 3Mt/yr cement plant in the Krasnogvardeisk district of Belgorod with an investment of US$638m. FLSmidth has been designated as the equipment supplier and lead engineering contractor for the project, according to Construction magazine and Interfax. Local government has allotted land and the project is expected to create over 700 jobs. No schedule for construction and commissioning has been released.
Bolivia: FLSmidth has received an order from Fábrica Nacional de Cemento SA (FANCESA) for the supply of equipment to build a complete cement production line with a capacity of 2100t/day, including plant design, procurement and civil engineering services. The plant will be located in Sucre.
The order is valued at over US$75m. It includes a range of equipment from crushing to packing and loadout. Equipment ordered includes an ATOX 35.0 vertical mill for raw grinding, a ROTAX-2 rotary kiln with low NOx ILC calciner, a Cross-Bar 8x38 cooler and a OK 30 vertical mill for cement grinding. The order will be completed by the first quarter of 2018. FLSmidth's supply also includes equipment from product companies of FLSmidth, such as planetary gear units from FLSmidth MAAG Gear, fabric filters from FLSmidth Airtech, a packing plant from FLSmidth Ventomatic, control system and plant automation from FLSmidth Automation and weighing and metering systems from FLSmidth Pfister.
"The project underlines FLSmidth's strength as the leading supplier of the most productive and energy-efficient equipment and technology for the cement industry," said Group Executive Vice President, Cement Division, Per Mejnert Kristensen.
Bua Group to hit 10Mt/yr cement production via upgrades
19 December 2016Nigeria: Bua Group plans to reach a cement production capacity of 10Mt/yr via upgrade projects at its Edo and Sokoto plants by the end of 2018, according to its chairman and chief executive officer Abdul Salman Rabiu. He made the comments to local press at the company's 2016 annual customer forum and awards ceremony in Abuja.
Fecto Cement to bid for Dewan Cement’s Hattar plant
15 December 2016Pakistan: Fecto Cement plans to bid for the Hattar cement plant owned by Dewan Cement. Abdul Samad, Fecto Cement’s company secretary, said that the company would evaluate the information to be provided by the financial advisor of Dewan Cement for carrying out due diligence in relation to the prospective acquisition of the plant. He added that the sale would be subject to finalisation of commercial terms, completion of due diligence, execution of definitive agreement and receipt of regulatory approvals.
