Adbri secures funding towards grinding and blending systems upgrade at Birkenhead cement plant
24 April 2024Australia: The Australian federal government has granted Adbri US$32.5m for a new front-end engineering and design study at its Birkenhead cement plant. The study will assess the possible installation of a new vertical roller mill and post-production blending system at the plant. InDaily News has reported that the proposed upgrade will increase the plant’s production capacity and help to expand its range of reduced-CO2 cements. The funding falls under the government’s US$260m Critical Inputs to Clean Energy programme, which aims to help decarbonise the Australian economy by 2050.
CEO Mark Irwin said “With the Commonwealth’s support we have the potential to further accelerate the decarbonisation of our operations and products.”
Ciments Calcia commences Euro285m Airvault cement plant upgrade
17 October 2022France: Heidelberg Materials' subsidiary Ciments Calcia has laid the foundation stone for its construction of a Euro285m CO2 emissions-reducing upgrade to its Airvault cement plant in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Ciments Calcia first published its plans for the installation of a new 4000t/day production line to replace both existing lines at the Airvault plant in 2021, with commissioning scheduled for mid-2024.
Germany-based ThyssenKrupp secured the order to supply a 1200t/hr double-shaft hammer crusher, a longitudinal blending bed, a 370t/hr Quadropol QMR² 45/23 vertical roller mill, a 10,000t raw materials tangential blending silo, a single-string, five-stage Dopol cyclone preheater with integral calciner for alternative fuels (with the possibility of conversion to oxyfuel), a Polytrack clinker cooler, a solid recovered fuel preparation line and dedusting systems for the project.
BekabadCement to launch customer support service
16 June 2022Uzbekistan: BekabadCement plans to launch a testing laboratory at its Bekabad cement plant, from which it will run a dedicated customer support service. The facility will focus on automatic sampling. BekabadCement expects to launch the service to customers in late 2022.
Buzzi Unicem launches CGreen reduced-CO2 cement in Germany and Italy
24 February 2022Germany/Italy: Italy-based Buzzi Unicem has launched its CGreen reduced-CO2 cement on the German and Italian cement markets. The product uses alternative raw materials to partially replace clinker and also optimises grinding and mixing conditions through the use of novel specialist additives. In Germany, the available range of CGreen cements will consist of Dyckerhoff Eco Comfort cement and Dyckerhoff Cedur cement.
Italy cemeny chief operating officer Antonio Buzzi said "The ecological transition calls for us to adapt our behaviors and actions in order to neutralise our carbon footprint. This transition implies the partial or total redesign of production processes, distribution systems and consumption patterns, heralding the start of a potential industrial revolution and a change in our habits."
Nuvoco Vistas to increase cement capacity by 4.58Mt/yr
11 February 2022India: Nuvoco Vistas plans to increase its installed cement production capacity by 21% to 26.9Mt through capital expenditures of more than US$253m. The Hindu BusinessLine News has reported that the company will invest US$200m in the establishment of its upcoming 2.18Mt/yr Kalaburagi cement plant in Karnataka. It will invest a further US$53.1m in upgrading its Bhiwani, Haryana, blending plant to make it into a 2.4Mt/yr grinding plant. Additionally, Nuvoco Vistas will establish alternative fuel (AF) processing plants at its Nimbol, Maharashtra, and Risda, Chhattisgarh, cement plants.
Keralan state government to double cement capacity by 2024
21 December 2021India: The government of Kerala says that it will double the total cement production capacity in the state to 14.4Mt from 7.2Mt before 2024. The Times of India newspaper has reported that Industries Minister Pinarayi Rajeev told Keralans that the state government would build a grinding plant at Kinfra in Kannur’s Mattanur district and a blending plant at Kochi Port Trust. Commissioning of both projects is planned by the end of 2023. A second phase of the plan will see additional grinding plants established.
AfriSam opens blending and packing plant in Lesotho
13 February 2017Lesotho: Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili has officially opened AfriSam’s cement blending and packing plant in Maseru. The unit is the cement producer’s first cement plant in the country, according to the Lesotho News Agency. The plant can produce up to 0.2Mt/yr of cement and it has been built at AfriSam’s existing distribution centre.
