Nepal: Sarbottam Cement's initial public offering (IPO) concluded on 8 March 2023, with the company issuing 13% of its capital. SSPro News has reported that this corresponds to a value of US$35m. Of the issued shares, 40% were allocated to qualified institutional investors. The issue was oversubscribed by a factor of 18.

The last traded price of Sarbottam Cement’s shares had risen by 10% on its first trading day on 19 March 2024.

Ireland/US: CRH has completed the move of its primary listing to the New York Stock Exchange. The group will retain a standard listing on the London Stock Exchange.

It said it had made the transition because “We believe a US primary listing will bring increased commercial, operational and acquisition opportunities for our business, further accelerating our successful integrated solutions strategy and delivering even higher levels of profitability, returns and cash for our shareholders.” It added that the North America market represents around 75% of the group’s earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) and that the US is expected to “be a key driver of future growth for CRH due to continued economic expansion, a growing population and significant construction needs.”

Albert Manifold, the chief executive officer of CRH, commented, “Today marks an important milestone in CRH’s development which will enable us to fully participate in the significant growth opportunities that lie ahead for our business”.

UK: Breedon Group has acquired concrete block producer Broome Bros., construction firm Minster Surfacing and concrete block and aggregates producer Robinson Quarry Masters. Breedon Group said that the businesses will strengthen its presence around Doncaster in South Yorkshire, in Antrim, Northern Ireland, and 'from the Midlands to London.'

CEO Rob Wood said “Many of our transactions come to us through our local knowledge and personal engagement with the owners. As a result, our active mergers and acquisitions pipeline has continued to yield high quality, earnings-enhancing opportunities that will enable us to progress our sustainable growth strategy." He added "Each of these independent family-run businesses is aligned with our vertically-integrated operating model, providing further opportunity to pull through upstream building materials while extending our downstream footprint to deliver profitable growth.”

Business Live News has reported that the group has also completed its transition to the London Stock Exchange from the AIM exchange. Breedon Group said that this will enhance its corporate profile by helping to attract greater international investment.

Paraguay: Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has suspended cement production and despatches at its Vallemí cement plant in Concepción. The La Nación newspaper has reported that torrential rain washed away raw materials stocks stored at the site. INC expects the plant to remain shut until 17 March 2023. It reassured customers that its Villeta grinding plant will continue to despatch cement as usual. CEO Ernesto Benítez said that it was 'inconceivable' that the suspension would not disrupt the domestic cement supply, given INC's 40% market share.

Thailand: King Maha Vajiralongkorn has taken personal ownership of royal assets including a stake in Siam Cement. In March 2018 stock exchange data showed that the king acquired around a US$150m stake in the cement and chemical producer, according to Reuters. The Crown Property Bureau has transferred ownership of the assets worth at least US$30bn to the monarch.

Brazil: InterCement is considering listing its European and African operations on a stock market according to sources quoted by Reuters. The move has been discussed with investment banks and could take place in the second half of 2018. InterCement has refused to comment on the story. InterCement’s owner Camargo Corrêa was reported by local media to be looking for buyers for its cement business in 2017 to reduce its debts. Cement sales in Brazil dropped by 6.6% year-on-year to 53.8Mt in 2017.
