Paraguay: Ernesto Julián Benítez Petters, the president of Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC), has reassured the market that the company can continually to operate normally despite low water levels in the Paraguay River. He reported that, in the fourth quarter of 2022, boats were loading with 1.5m of draft, according to the Última Hora newspaper. This has meant that barges can only accommodate around half of their normal capacity. Benítez Petters added that it is uncertain when the river will recover its previously normal water levels.
The state-owned cement producer says it has enough raw materials to keep its plant operating at Villeta as it has used more barges to cope. It also conducted maintenance works at the docks of both its Viletta and Vallemí plants in 2021. Widening work at the Paso Queso on the river is a long term goal of the government.
INC’s Vallemi cement plant to continue to dispatch cement despite grinding mill breakdown
22 November 2021Paraguay: State-owned Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) says that its Vallemi plant has suffered a grinding mill breakdown due to an ‘engine failure.’ The producer reassured customers that the issue will not affect the plant’s regular dispatches of cement.

The state-owned producer reports that both increasing international prices for the fuel and logistical challenges, such as varying river water levels, have raised overall prices. It added that stopping production would cause negative impacts to both the construction sector and the local economy.
INC develops news software for weighbridges

INC distributors waiting up to a month for orders
31 July 2020Paraguay: Distributors of cement supplied by Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) are reportedly waiting up to a month for their orders to be delivered, even if they pay in advance. The state-run cement company’s two plants are delivering around 40,000 bags/day despite a production capacity of up to 100,000 bags/day, according the ABC Color newspaper. INC inaugurated a new mill at its Villeta cement grinding plant in 2018 and has invested US$80m in its last set of upgrade projects.
Cement sales surge in Paraguay
19 May 2020Paraguay: Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has reported sales of 79,800 bags/day of cement between 4 May 2020 and 8 May 2020. Demand had collapsed in April 2020 due to restrictions on construction resulting from the coronavirus outbreak. Esmerk Latin American News has reported that newly reopened distributors collected their orders and that a number of customers purchased more than their usual volume in anticipation of a further easing of lockdown. INC has placed an order for 40,000t of imported clinker to help production to meet demand.

The local market needs around 100,000 bags/day of cement and state-owned Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) normally provides around half of this, according to the ABC Color newspaper. However, production problems at INC’s plants have seen significant drops in supply.
INC launches composite cement product
11 July 2019Paraguay: Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has launched CPII – C40, a composite cement product. The pozzolanic product is intended for use in structural projects. Its properties include high initial resistance and increased resistance against water. The new product was publicly launched at the EXPO-FAIR Mariano Roque Alonso.

The new product is scheduled to be released in June 2019, according to IP Paraguay. Following the launch the cement producer will have four main cement products.
Unions warn of cement shortages in Paraguay
15 February 2019Paraguay: Union representatives at Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) have warned of shortages in mid-February 2019. They have cited a shortage of bags at its Villeta plant and problems with the kiln at the Vallemi plant, according to the ABC Color newspaper. The president of INC has denied the claims. Local cement sales are expected to rise by 7.7% year-on-year to 1.4Mt in 2019 from 1.3Mt in 2018.
