Sandvik completes the divestment of Sandvik Process Systems

Sweden: Sandvik has completed the sale of its Sandvik Process Systems division to asset management company FAM AB. The divestment has agreed for around Euro500m in June 2017. Sandvik Process Systems manufactures industrial process solutions based on steel belts, steel belt based equipment and process solutions within adjacent technologies.

FLSmidth completes acquisition of Sandvik Mining Systems projects business

Sweden: Denmark’s FLSmidth has completed its acquisition of Sandvik Mining Systems’ projects business except for the transfer of assets in South Africa, which is awaiting merger control clearance. The acquisition includes continuous surface mining and minerals handling technologies and competences that strengthen the group's core minerals business. The purchase is intended to increases FLSmidth’s coverage of the full mining value chain.

"With this acquisition we will be able to increase the productivity of the complete ‘Pit to Plant’ operation by better integrating upstream mining with downstream processing. The acquisition also allows us to digitalise the full value chain and enables a better utilisation of existing leading technologies by obtaining direct access to all key processes and equipment," said Manfred Schaffer, Group Executive Vice President, Minerals Division of FLSmidth.

The acquisition includes the part of Sandvik Mining Systems that is closest to the mine, which excludes Sandvik's conveyor component and its Finland based businesses. It includes all products for continuous surface mining, inpit crushing and minerals handling technologies and related intellectual property, including reference lists, drawings and data for installed base. The deal includes the transfer of over 200 employees from Sandvik. FLSmidth will also provide project management services to Sandvik on the majority of ongoing projects to be delivered during 2017 - 2019 period and parts and services for the installed equipment.

The closing of the acquisition in South Africa is expected to occur in early 2018.

Petra Einarsson appointed new chief executive officer of BillerudKorsnäs

Sweden: The board of directors of BillerudKorsnäs has appointed Petra Einarsson new president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the company. She succeeds Per Lindberg, who leaves the company after 12 years in the role. Einarsson will assume her new position at the start of 2018.

Since 2013 Einarsson has been the president of Sandvik Materials Technology and a member of the Group Executive Management of Sandvik. Prior to that she has held a number of senior positions within the Sandvik group, including president of product area Tube, president of product area Strip and Financial Manager at Sandvik Materials Technology. Einarsson was born in 1967 and holds a BSc in Business Administration and Economics.

Göran Björkman appointed new president for Sandvik Materials Technology

Sweden: Sandvik has appointed Göran Björkman as its new president of business area Sandvik Materials Technology and member of the Sandvik Group Executive Management Team. He succeeds Petra Einarsson, who is leaving the company for an external assignment. The change is effective from 1 November 2017.

Björkman, aged 51 years, has been with the company since 1990, of which almost 20 years has been spent at the materials technology operations. Most recently he has held the position as Vice President Production at Sandvik Coromant and Vice President Production Strategy, Sandvik Machining Solutions.

Siwertell receives repeat order for road-mobile ship unloader

Sweden: Siwertell, part of Cargotec, has received a repeat order from an undisclosed client in the Middle East for a road-mobile ship unloader. The 10 000 S trailer-based, diesel-powered unit has been ordered in response to an expansion in white and grey cement operations.

Magnus Ohlsson appointed chief executive officer of Cementa

Sweden: Magnus Ohlsson has been appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Cementa. Ohlsson has worked for Cementa and its parent company HeidelbergCement in various roles. Since 2014 he has been the Marketing Manager and Vice President of Cementa. He will continue to manage marketing in his new position. He succeeds Jan Gånge who will become the Finance Director and Deputy General Manager for HeidelbergCement Northern Europe.

Kent Viitanen appointed President of Bearing Operations at SKF

Sweden: SKF has appointed Kent Viitanen as its President of Bearing Operation. He was previously Senior Vice President, Group People, Communication and Quality.

Viitanen joined SKF in 1988 and has held a number of business unit and factory management roles in Sweden and internationally. The Group Quality function will also be integrated into Bearing Operations. He succeeds Luc Graux, who will take up a new role within Bearing Operations. Carina Bergfelt, in addition to her role as General Counsel and Senior Vice President, Legal and Sustainability, will take on the responsibility for People and Communication.

FLSmidth to buy part of Sandvik Mining Systems

12 July 2017

Sweden: FLSmidth has signed an agreement to acquire a part of Sandvik Mining Systems. This includes continuous surface mining and minerals handling technologies and competences that are intended to strengthen the group's core minerals business. The acquisition will increase FLSmidth’s coverage of the full mining value chain, from the primary crushing point in the mining pit and the transport from mine to plant all the way through the minerals processing plant to the handling of tailings.

FLSmidth will provide project management and aftermarket services to Sandvik on the majority of on-going projects to be delivered during 2017 - 2019. The agreement is subject to certain conditions, including regulatory authority clearance, and closing is expected by the end of 2017.

Cementa and Vattenfall running pilot of electrified cement production

Sweden: Cementa, subsidiary of HeidelbergCement, and Vattenfall are conducting a pilot study on electrified cement production to attempt to reach zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2030. The intention of the CemZero project is to supply power to cement plants from a so-called ‘climate smart Swedish energy system.’

"Electrification within the industry is an important element in the transition to sustainable urban development. We are now going to develop knowledge within the field in order to ascertain together with Vattenfall whether it is a potential future solution for cement production," says Jan Gånge, chief executive officer (CEO) of Cementa.

Sandvik hit by WannaCry computer virus

Sweden: Sandvik has been affected by the WannaCry computer virus. The engineering company said that the ransonware worm had hit its office and production environment on 12 May 2017. The company has focused on mapping the impact and executing recovery measures. It expects to deliver on customer commitments as planned and no major financial impact is currently expected.
