Kenya: East Africa Portland Cement Company (EAPCC) has defaulted on contractual loan repayments to KCB Bank after auditors PricewaterhouseCoopers reported that the Kenyan company made a loss of US$28.0m in the twelve months to 30 June 2019, over which time it produced 0.3Mt of cement against an installed capacity of 1.3Mt/yr.
Sinotrans transports cement from Angola to DRC
30 December 2019Angola: Chinese-based Sinotrans has exported 800t of cement on the 1344km railway journey from Cimenfort’s 0.4Mt/yr Lobito grinding plant to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Angola Press Agency has reported that the cement was ground from clinker produced in China. Cimenfort sales coordinator Francisco Idelfrides suggested that the cement company may look to expand its production capacity in 2020. He said it sold 0.3Mt of cement in eastern Angola and the DRC in 2019.
Saudi producers sell 24% more cement year-on-year in November 2019
11 December 2019Saudi Arabia: In a report on 17 Saudi cement companies including itself, Yamama Cement recorded a year-on-year increase of 24% in sales volumes to 4.27Mt in November 2019 from 3.45Mt the previous November. The volume produced was 4.30Mt, up by 22% from 3.54Mt in November 2018. Mubasher has reported that the country has 1.22Mt of cement in inventory, 3.8% more than the 1.18Mt it held at the end of November 2018. Southern Province Cement Company (SPCC) led the month’s sales, with 0.61Mt.
Pakistan: Cement producers in Pakistan have increased volumes in the five months to 30 November 2019 by 5.8% year-on-year to 20.5Mt from 19.9Mt. This represents 82% utilisation of its 55.9Mt/yr capacity. Exports over the period were 3.61Mt, up by 22% year-on-year from 2.97Mt in the same period of 2018. The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturer Association (APCMA) released a statement lobbying the government to intervene in replacing bricks, the production of which it says causes smog in central Punjab, with concrete blocks. “Government should start work on announced housing projects that would have a positive impact on uptake of cement,” it said.
Azerbaijan produces 2.8Mt of cement in 10 months to 31 October 2019
04 December 2019Azerbaijan: Cement producers in Azerbaijan produced 2.8Mt in the 10-month period ending 31 October 2019, down by 3.4% from 2.9Mt in the corresponding period of 2018. Ready-mix concrete production swelled by 25% to 1.5Mt from 1.2Mt in 2018’s first 10 months. Trend has reported the total value of construction materials produced in Azerbaijan over the period at US$382m.
Vietnam’s November cement production rises by 9.6% year-on-year
02 December 2019Vietnam: The General Statistics Office has reported an estimated 9.6% year-on-year rise in cement production in November 2019 to 8.7Mt from 7.9Mt in November 2018. Vietnam News Brief Service has reported that, if December delivers on the previous month’s volumes, this would yield a production total for 2019 of 96.6Mt, up by 7.1% from 87.9Mt in 2018.
Pakistani cement production grows 9.2% year-on-year in October
04 November 2019Pakistan: The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers’ Association has released figures showing a total cement output of 4.98Mt in October 2019, up by 9.2% from 4.56Mt in October 2018. Business Recorder recorded that this is a national record for monthly despatches; the second month of growth following year-on-year falls in July and August 2019. Exports continued to rise, to 0.79Mt, up by 28% from 0.62Mt in October 2018.
