Argentina: Cementos Avellaneda has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with energy provider YPF Luz for the construction of a new wind farm. Local press has reported that the planned plant will have a capacity of 63MW and be situated in Olavarría, Buenos Aires Province. There, it will supply 100% of the energy used in cement production at Cementos Avellaneda's Olavarría cement plant. The cement producer will transmit any surplus energy from the wind farm to its San Luis plant at La Calera, with the longer-term aim of becoming Argentina's first 100% renewably-powered cement company.
The partners will carry out technical and economic feasibility studies in mid-2023, and publish plans and budget before the end of the year.
Pampa Energía to supply renewable energy to Holcim Argentina
07 December 2022Argentina: Pampa Energía has signed an agreement with Holcim Argentina to supply it with wind power to its four cement plants. The supply will provide 25% of the cement producer’s electrical energy requirements, according to Grupo La Provincia. Previously Holcim Argentina signed a deal with YPF Luz to supply wind power to its plants in 2019. The current arrangement is expected to bring the company portion of renewable electrical energy to 65% or 220GWh. The electricity from the latest deal with Pampa Energía will be generated at the Pampa Energía III Wind Farm located in the Coronel Rosales district of Buenos Aires Province.
El Salvador: Holcim El Salvador plans to invest up to US$50m over the next three years to help it generate 70% of the energy it uses. It plans to build a 17MW solar plant and a wind farm to enable this, according to La Prensa Gráfica newspaper. The investment will also help the subsidiary of Switzerland-based Holcim to progress towards its net-zero sustainability goals. The solar project has a budget of US$19m and will be built in agreement with AES Corporation. It will be located at Holcim’s integrated El Ronco cement plant. It will supply 21% of the energy used at both the El Ronco and Maya cement plants.
The investment has also included the installation of a solid waste shredder earlier in 2022. Its official inauguration is planned for mid-November 2022. Holcim El Salvador reached a 30% alternative fuels substitution rate in October 2022.
Opterra signs renewable power deal with Statkraft
15 December 2021Germany: Opterra has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Statkraft for the supply of electricity from onshore wind farms. The renewable energy producer will supply around 30GWh to the subsidiary of CRH’s integrated cement plants at Karsdorf in Saxony-Anhalt, Wössingen in Baden-Württemberg and a grinding plant at Sötenich in North Rhine-Westphalia between 2022 and 2025. The wind power will be generated at four wind farms.
Asia Cement Corporation to expand offshore wind power capacity in partnership with RWE
09 December 2021Taiwan: Asia Cement Corporation plans to establish further offshore wind power plants under an extension of its partnership with Germany-based power company RWE. SNL Energy Finance Daily News has reported that the partners are investigating potential sites in Changhua, Hsinchu and Taichung.
Holcim Deutschland signs deal for 30,000MWh of offshore wind power for cement plants
02 February 2021Germany: Holcim Deutschland has signed a contract supplying its Lägerdorf and Höver integrated cement plants with 30,000MWh of offshore wind power. The electricity will be supplied by Ane Energy from a number of wind farms.
