First cement plant project for McNally Bharat
19 December 2012India: McNally Bharat Engineering Company Ltd (MBEL), a Williamson Magor group company, has booked an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth US$133.5m from ACC Ltd to set up a 9000t/day (~2.9Mt/yr) brownfield cement facility at its existing plant at Jamul, Chhattisgarh. The deal was announced by Deepak Khaitan, chairman of MBEL, at a press conference in the city on 17 December 2012. The plant will be set up with technology from Germany's KHD Humboldt Wedag.
"This order is a major milestone for us as it flags off MBEL's entry into the cement plant construction business," said Khaitan. "This will open up opportunities for MBEL as an EPC contractor for the Indian cement industry."
The company has also opened offices in South Africa to carry out engineering contracts in Africa. "Our emphasis will be to expand our footprint globally," said Khaitan.
Italcementi hires KHD for Rezatto upgrade
23 November 2012Germany: Italcementi has awarded KHD a contract to upgrade and redevelop its Brescia Rezzato plant in Italy. The upgraded plant, situated in the environmentally sensitive Lake Garda region, will have to adhere to strict environmental requirements.
Italcementi has selected KHD's Clean Technology for the upgrade. It includes a KHD COMFLEX® SC 18 – 3250 system for raw material grinding, a Two-Pier PYRORAPID® Kiln 3000t/day 4.4m x 52m, a PFC PYRFLOOR® clinker cooler 635 AW and a Low NOX 5 stage Preheater 7950 PR.
KHD will also supply additional environmental equipment including selective catalytic reduction systems, a gas conditioning tower, selective non catalytic reduction systems, as well as special filter systems to reduce SOX. KHD will install much of the equipment whilst the existing kiln continues to operate.
The Rezzato plant, built in 1964, was designed by former Italcementi chairman Giampiero Pesenti, father of current Italcementi CEO Carlo Pesenti, during his tenure as an engineer. The project is scheduled to be finished in 2014, in time for Italcementi's 150th anniversary.

KHD wins contract with KCS
17 August 2011Turkey: Kahramanmaras Cimento Beton Sanayii Ve Madencilik Isletmeleri (KCS) has awarded KHD Humboldt Wedag the contract to supply equipment for its second cement production line with a capacity of 4500t/day clinker near the city of Kahramanmaras in southeastern Turkey. Commissioning of both the new kiln line and the clinker grinding system is planned for the end of 2012.
Signing with KHD Humboldt Wedag for delivering clinker production line I in May 2006 allowed KIPAS Holding to enter the cement industry via the subsidiary to meet the requirements for entering the Turkish cement industry as a producer. The scope of KHD´s delivery and services includes the engineering and delivery of mechanical and electrical equipment as well as advisory supervision of erection and commissioning (including training) for the new kiln line and for the clinker grinding system. Its capacity will increase from 100t/hr to 200t/hr at a fineness of 3600cm2/g.
For its second line, KCS has chosen to install a KHD combustion chamber, with which coarse secondary fuels and/or secondary fuels associated with difficult ignition and combustion can be used. The new technology should lower the quality requirements for the alternative fuels as well as preparation requirements. This will be the second KHD combustion chamber in Turkey, following the first installation in a cement plant near Ankara. The increase in clinker capacity with the new kiln line accompanied a decision by KCS to increase the output of the existing cement mill, a ball mill of Chinese design with a throughput capacity of 100t/hr CEM I 42.5.
