Roger Smith appointed as Technical Manager by Plibrico

27 February 2019

US: Plibrico has appointed Roger Smith as its Technical Manager. He will be responsible for development of refractory formulas and providing technical guidance to the company’s partners and customers. Smith will report to Plibrico’s Vice President of Engineering, Dan Szynal.

Smith holds 15 years of experience in the processing, characterisation and testing of traditional and advanced ceramics. Prior to Plibrico, his previous positions include RHI Magnesita and Bucher Emhart Glass, where he was a ceramist for almost 10 years. As a ceramist, Smith conducted technical customer visits to address performance concerns, developed and commercialised new refractory material.

Smith is a member of the America Ceramic Society, serving as chairman of the St Louis, Missouri section from 2014 - 2016. He also was a member of the ASTM Committee C08 on refractories from 2010 - 2017. Smith holds a Master’s degree in Ceramic Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla.

Plibrico appoints John Finch as new Territory Manager

US: Plibrico has appointed John Finch has joined its team as the Southeastern Territory Manager. He will be based in the greater Omaha, Nebraska area. His appointment supports Plibrico’s strategic direction of strengthening partner relationships as well as increasing its nationwide refractory support coverage. He will report to Norm Phelps, Plibrico Vice President of Sales.

Finch began his career in the industrial market working with a boiler and refractory contractor. His background includes over 20 years of experience in technical and project management roles with several different refractory contractors. In these positions, he honed his skill set and areas of expertise including managing projects in mineral processing companies, power plants, boilers, foundries and heat treatment facilities. Finch is an active member of several different industry and refractory associations. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Nebraska.

Plibrico starts refractory distribution deal with Pli Group Europe

11 January 2019

US/Europe: US refractory manufacturer Plibrico has entered into a distribution partnership with the Pli Group Europe, a refractory distributor contractor based in Vienna, Austria. Under the new alliance, Pli Group Europe will provide full-service distribution of Plibrico’s Plico brand refractories in Austria, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria, with immediate effect.

“Adding Pli Group Europe to our ranks of Pli Partners allows Plibrico to reinforce its expertise, enhance its service offering and strengthen the value chain offered to customers throughout Europe,” said Brad Taylor, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Plibrico.

Plibrico appoints Aaron Ingalls as Territory Manager

US: Plibrico has appointed Aaron Ingalls as Territory Manager for the Northeastern section of the US. He is tasked with supporting and developing relationships with a network of partners and Plibrico owned construction operations. He will report to Plibrico’s Vice President of Sales, Norm Phelps.

During Ingalls’ 24-year refractory industry career, he has held various business development and sales management positions at Resco and companies that were acquired by Resco. Most recently he worked for Emerald Refractories, a refractory specialty company in Pennsylvania that he helped to launch in 2014.

Norm Phelps appointed Vice President of Sales for Plibrico

US: Plibrico has appointed Norm Phelps as its new Vice President of Sales. Phelps will be responsible for aligning sales strategy and objectives with Plibrico's long term vision and corporate goals. He will be based in Atlanta, Georgia and will report to Plibrico president and chief executive officer Brad Taylor.

Phelps has worked in the refractory industry for 18 years, holding sales and marketing positions at Vesuvius and Zampell in the US. Later he moved to Europe to join Calderys as Global Market Manager responsible for the aluminum and boiler segments in 2011. In 2014, he took on the role of Business Development Manager, leading the Calderys expansion into North America, including the purchase and integration of Spar and the creation of Calderys USA. Most recently, he served as General Manager for Calderys North America.

Phelps holds a degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and is a graduate of the Executive Development Program at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Pamela Gaul appointed as director of marketing for Plibrico

US: Plibrico, a single-source supplier of refractory products and solutions, has appointed Pamela Gaul as its director of marketing. She will be responsible for directing all activities related to the strategic development and implementation of marketing initiatives for the organisation.

Gaul previously worked for RR Donnelley (RRD), where she served as a Senior Director of Marketing and Business Development. Much of her career has been spent with the marketing services division of RRD, where she held various marketing positions of increasing responsibility. Prior to RRD she held marketing positions with Riso and Canon Solutions America.

Plibrico opens new headquarters and research and development laboratory near Chicago

US: Plibrico Company has opened its new corporate headquarters and research and development laboratory in Northbrook, Illinois. Previously located in Chicago, Illinois, the new Northbrook location offers a larger, more user-friendly space for staff and visitors. The company is a manufacturer and installer of aluminosilicate and high alumina monolithic refractories that are used in a variety of industries including cement.
