Denmark: FLSmidth has released ECS/ProcessExpert 8.3, the latest version of its process control system. Following installation and testing at four sites, it is now available for different cement and mineral plant applications, including as a free commercial release to all existing ECS/ProcessExpert version eight customers. The update improves a number of features and benefits including easier transitions for cement recipes.

"Some of the advanced techniques used by the new system include model predictive control and fuzzy logic rules. These allow it to continuously monitor the plant's process and quality parameters and continuously compute new control set points with more speed and accuracy than a human operator," said FLSmidth's Global Product Line Manager for Process Optimisation, King Becerra.

Other benefits offered by the update include a full decision tree on the front page of the system to help operators understand controller actions better and enhanced full plots on the front page to allow operators to see actuator actions and measure responses to a given action from the main page.

India: Dalmia Bharat Cement has launched two new cement products in Odisha. The two new products - Dhalai Special Dalmia DSP Cement and Dalmia Cement – will be made available across 650 dealers and network partners in the state. Dalmia Bharat Group CEO Mahendra Singhi said that the product launch is expected to increase sales to US$221m from US$177m in the state, according to the Press Trust of India.

Dalmia Bharat Cement, which manages OCL India in Odisha, markets cement under the brand name of Konark. It has cement plants at Rajgangpur and Kapilas in the state. The group has set a sales target of about 75,000t/month for the two newly launched brands in Odisha. Its existing sales volumes across all product lines in the state are around 250,000t/month.

UK: Flexicon has launched a new bulk bag-lifting frame with telescoping arms that accommodates bulk bags produced in a range of sizes. The lifting frame can be added to all BFC models of Flexicon's Bulk-Out discharger line or it can be used for up to 2t capacities to replace discharger lifting frames that use a hoist to position and suspend bulk bags.

The telescoping arms can be adjusted using clevis pins and safety clips to a range of settings to accommodate bulk bags from 81 - 119cm square at the upper sew seam. This adjustability also allows the lifting frame to work with rectangular bags. The frame is available in carbon steel with industrial coatings or stainless steel to industrial or sanitary standards.

India: Kanodia Group has launched its new cement brand ‘Bigcem’ at Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The product will be targeted at markets in Uttarakhand and Western Uttar Pradesh to start with followed by expansion in Delhi and the National Capital Region, according to the Hans India newspaper. Gautam Kanodia, director of Kanodia Group, said that the product is expected to give 40% more strength than the general Bureau of Indian Standards standard.

Vietnam: Vietnam Construction Material Company (VCM) has inaugurated a cement plant for its StartCemt brand in Dong Nai. VCM also operates a 5000t/day integrated cement plant at Van Hoa, Quang Binh and three cement grinding plants in the south of the country. VCM currently sells over 200,000t/month of clinker and 40,000t/month of StarCemt cement.The StarCemt brand was established on 1 May 2015.

Romania: Holcim Romania has extended its range of bagged cements to better address the needs of the local market. Its new bagged range comprises: Structo Plus 40 kg, Structo Plus 20kg, Structo 40kg, Extra Dur 52 40kg and Tenco 40kg. They have been chosen to meet customer demands for aesthetics, shorter setting time, lower costs, higher strength and durability.

“The new range of cement bags is the best proof of how Holcim Romania understands and contributes for the development of the construction sector, by implementing and offering innovation and sustainability in the market through tailored and cost-effective solutions,” said Sofiane Benmaghnia, CEO Holcim Romania.

US: Flexco has added the PTEZ Belt Trainer to its line of belt trainers. Designed with the Flexco ‘Pivot and Tilt’ feature, the new PTEZ Belt Trainer is targeted at
applications that requires tracking to prevent damage to the belt or conveyor structure, including single-direction and reversing belts.

“The PTEZ Belt Trainer is an advanced solution over typical low-cost wobblers or pivot-only trainers,” said Kevin Fales, marketing specialist for Flexco. “With our unique pivot and tilt technology, the PTEZ will pivot away from and increase tension on the mistracked side in order to quickly guide the belt back to the centre.”

The PTEZ belt trainer can be used on vulcanised or mechanically-fastened belts for most medium-duty applications, including wet and dry conditions, belts with edge damage or wear, and belts that are mistracking to one or both sides. The line’s ‘Pivot and Tilt’ feature keeps the belt away from the structure and the material stays on the belt without the use of sensor or edge rollers. The tapered ends on the roller drive the pivot and tilt mechanism, allowing the two forces to quickly move the belt back to the centre. The PTEZ Belt Trainer also features a polyurethane roller cover to prolong its lifespan.

US: Thermo Fisher Scientific have released a new online elemental analyser that can be used in real time quality control for process optimisation in cement production. The Thermo Scientific CB Omni Fusion analyser allows users to choose either an electrically-driven neutron generator or an isotope, Californium (²⁵²Cf), as the analyser’s excitation source. This enables them to continuously measure the elemental composition of the entire raw material stream carried on a conveyor belt.

“Cement manufacturers are under increased pressure to maximise resources and reduce costs,” said Kevin Gordon, global marketing manager for prompt gamma neutron activation analysis for Thermo Fisher Scientific. “We’ve developed the CB Omni Fusion with flexibility in mind. Quality control managers and operators can gather immediate results from raw material analysis to save time, money and energy, and they can customize the instrument to work best for them.”

The product also features a new software interface suite, Omni View, which allows users to configure the analyser to their process requirements. Additional features of the Thermo Scientific CB Omni Fusion analyser include: auto-diagnostic software to track system health and operational conditions; modular design to facilitate installation on existing conveyor trusses; and one to four large volume detectors and variable tunnel heights to accommodate process conditions.

The Thermo Scientific CB Omni Fusion analyser follows other analytics products from Thermo Fisher Scientific including the CB Omni and CB Omni Flex. It can also be used for elemental analysis in the sinter ore, scrap steel and mineral production processes.

India: The India Cements Limited (ICL) has started promoting a new sulphate-resistant cement. The new product, Coromandel SRC, is a specialty-blended cement targeted for construction in aggressive environment such as a coastal areas. It will be manufactured at its Vishnupuram Plant in Telangana, according to the Hindu newspaper.

The new product is part of a business drive by the cement producer to improve its relationship with the distribution network. Other initiatives include extending technical support to its stockists and dealers in marketing new products. The company is also promoting Coromandel Duralite Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks which are made from cement, fly ash, lime and alumina, an aeration agent.

UK: Kingfisher Industrial has started manufacturing its own K-CLAD 800 series wear resistant overlay range. As the range of K-CLAD 800 overlay plate is being manufactured in-house within the UK, the process of material quality (plate and powders), deposition process, overall flatness and thickness can be controlled by means of the company’s ISO 9001 quality control certification along with its factory production control (FPC) procedures underpinning its ISO 1090 execution class three certification.

The manufacturing process uses a bulk deposit method and fluxes are mechanically deposited onto a mild steel base plate via a submerged arc fusion bonded process. Kingfisher uses a new overlay system which incorporates electronic technology to enable production of an overlay with total carbide saturation (TCS) affording increased wear resistance.

The K-CLAD 800 range can be used by industries that handle materials including ores, cement, clinker, aggregates, coal and glass. It can be supplied in sheet form or in pre-designed tailored shapes to suit its application. Typical application for the series includes the protection of transfer chutes, vibratory feeders and screens, dump trucks, hoppers and fan blades.

The UK-based wear protection specialist will be promoting the new product at the Hillhead quarrying, construction and recycling exhibition taking place in late June 2016 in the UK.
