Holcim Philippines to increase production capacity to 13Mt/yr
03 December 2018Philippines: Holcim Philippines plans to invest nearly US$300m towards increasing its production capacity by 30% to 13Mt/yr by 2020. It will upgrade its plants at Bulacan and Misamis Oriental with the installation of new kilns, mills and waste heat recovery systems. The upgrades are intended to support the country’s economic development and strong construction sector.
“Our capacity expansion ensures that we can provide a steady supply of quality building materials to support the government’s infrastructure program and the resulting construction activity from the economy’s sustained rise,” said John Stull, Holcim Philippines president and chief executive officer (CEO).
The projects are part of a series of capacity and productivity investments that Holcim Philippines started in 2012 with the rehabilitation of its grinding plant in Mabini, Batangas. This was followed by debottlenecking of plants in 2015 and expansion projects in La Union and Davao that are set to be completed in 2019.
Eurocement upgrading Kavkazcement plant
03 December 2018Russia: Eurocement is upgrading its Kavkazcement plant in a Euro13m project until May 2019. Production will continue throughout out the work. The plant is preparing to increase cement production in 2019 by refurbishing kilns that were not used in 2018. The clinker cooler and a static grid will be installed in January 2019. From February to May 2019 work on the plant’s raw material lines and cement mills will be conducted. In addition selected buildings at the site will be replaced.
US: Mississippi Lime Company plans to ‘significantly’ increase enhanced hydrated lime capacities at its Weirton, West Virginia and Verona, Kentucky plants. It also manufactures hydrated lime products from its Ste Genevieve, Missouri, Vicksburg, Mississippi and Chester, South Carolina operations. The company produces high calcium quicklime, hydrated lime and calcium carbonate.
Dankalk upgrades lime hydrator with Gebr. Pfeiffer
30 November 2018Denmark: Dankalk is upgrading the lime hydrator at its Aggersund plant. A new KLV 02/630-4.0 type lime hydrator is being supplied by Germany’s Gebr. Pfeiffer. It is being replaced from a previous Gebr. Pfeiffer model installed in the 1980s due to tighter emission limits. Commissioning of the new lime hydrator is scheduled for mid-2019.
Solid Cement uses US$75m loan to upgrade Antipolo plant
28 November 2018Philippines: Solid Cement is using a US$75m loan from Cemex Asia to partly pay for a new production line at its plant in Antipolo, Rizal. The subsidiary of Cemex Holdings Philippines has made an initial withdrawal of around US$41m, according to the Manila Standard newspaper. The upgrade has a total cost of US$235m and it is scheduled completion in 2020. The new line will be supplied and built by China’s CBMI Construction.
Eurocement to upgrade Zhigulovskiye plant to produce white cement
28 November 2018Russia: Eurocement has hired Turkey’s Dal Teknik to upgrade a production line at its Zhigulovskiye Stroymaterialy plant in Samara so that it can manufacture white cement. The project has a budget of around Euro13m. Once complete the line will be able to produce 0.3Mt/yr of PCB 1-500-D0 or just below 0.4Mt/yr PCB 1-400-D20 white cement. The new product will be sold in big or regular sized bags. First deliveries are expected in the summer of 2019.
Cementos Cibao inaugurates new packing plant
27 November 2018Dominican Republic: Cementos Cibao has inaugurated a new packing and despatch plant. The unit has two automated packing lines with a palletising system, according to the Listín Diario newspaper. The site also includes a warehouse that can store 200,000 bags of cement. The cement producer operates an integrated plant.
Cementos Melon expands Puerto Montt grinding plant
19 November 2018Chile: Cementos Melon has completed a US$25m upgrade to its Puerto Montt grinding plant. The expansion has doubled its production capacity to 0.6Mt/yr from 0.3Mt/yr, according to the Diario Financiero. The project is intended to meet growing demand for cement in the south of the country.
Uzpromstroybank and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China discuss cement projects in Uzbekistan
12 November 2018Uzbekistan: Representatives of Uzpromstroybank and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (UCBC) have met to discuss investment projects in the country to boost local industrial capacity. Proposals included expanding the production capacity of Kuvasoycement’s Kuvasay plant and the construction of a new cement plant, Yaypancement, according to the Trend News Agency.
LafargeHolcim Poland invests Euro2.5m in automated laboratory
12 November 2018Poland: LafargeHolcim Poland has invested Euro2.5m towards setting up an automated laboratory in a new building at its Kujawy cement plant. The laboratory will be used to test and analyse the quality of raw meal, clinker and cement every hour over a 24 hour period. Results are then fed back to the control room to allow for production line modifications.
The new facticity was constructed and commissioned in less than 10 months, covering all sampling points. Setup included installing pneumatic conveyors to connect sample points to the laboratory. The longest was 0.5km.
