Greece: Titan Cement has posted a 26% year-on-year rise in its net profit to Euro17.6m for the first half of 2015, helped by a strong performance in the US. Its sales increased by 25.8% to Euro389m, boosted by higher demand for building materials and a stronger Dollar in the US, according to Reuters.
Holcim New Zealand develops Waitemata Port 31 July 2015
New Zealand: Holcim New Zealand is building a new cement silo at the Waitemata Port. Cement ships will relocate from Onehunga to the new site, which is expected to be completed in the middle of 2016, according to the Manukau Courier. A Holcim spokesperson said that the Onehunga Port will continue to be used as a bagging plant and the silos will remain operational.
Uganda: Tororo Cement Limited has invested US$25 - 30m towards the expansion of its cement plant, taking its capacity from the current 1.8Mt/yr to 3Mt/yr to meet regional demand.
Brij Mohan Gragrani, Tororo Cement executive director, said that the company would construct a new grinding mill, cement storage silos, rotary packers, clinker feeding system and clinker sheds. "The expansion is proposed in view of market demand in Uganda and neighbouring countries," said Mohan Gragrani.
Semen Indonesia’s first half profit falls to US$163m 31 July 2015
Indonesia: PT Semen Indonesia has posted a sharp drop in net profit to US$163m for the first half of 2015, according to Reuters. In the corresponding period of 2014, its net profit was US$207m.
Dangote plans new cement plant in Chongwe 31 July 2015
Zambia: Dangote Group has announced plans to build a new cement plant in Chongwe, Lusaka, according to All Africa. Meanwhile, its cement plant in Masaiti is due to be officially commissioned on 4 August 2015.
Nigeria: Lafarge's Ashaka Cement has reported a 5% year-on-year fall in half year pre-tax profit to US$21m in the first half of 2015, according to Reuters. Its revenue also dropped to US$54m from US$61.8m in the same period of 2014. The company's gross income fell to US$21.8m from US$25.9m in 2014.
Qatar National Cement’s 2015 first half profit up 31 July 2015
Qatar: Qatar National Cement has reported that its profit for the first six months of 2015 rose to US$66.6m form US$65.3m in the same period of 2014, according to MarketLine. Its revenue for the first six months grew to US$160m from US$147m in the first six months of 2014. Its gross profit fell to US$63.3m from US$65.9m in 2014.
Ohorongo Cement ups production 31 July 2015
Namibia: Ohorongo Cement managing director Hans-Wilhelm Schütte said that the company has produced about 2.4Mt of cement for both local and foreign consumption in past five years, according to APANEWS. Cement production has grown since it first began at the site in December 2010.
Nigeria: Dangote Cement's pre-tax profit in the first half of 2015 rose by 20.2% year-on-year to US$646m, according to Reuters. Its revenue rose to US$1.22bn from US$1.05bn in the same period of 2014.
Italy: Italcementi has reported a profit of Euro3.8m in the first half of 2015 compared to a loss of Euro79m in the same period of 2014. Its revenue rose by 6% to Euro2.17bn, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased by 5% to Euro324m. The company expects a slight improvement in operating results in the entirety of 2015.
