Malaysia: YTL Cement has awarded a turnkey project for air pollution control to Italy’s CTP Team. The project at the Perak-Hanjoong Simen cement plant in Pedang Rengas includes the conversion of an existing PL1 raw mill electrostatic precipitator (ESP) to a fabric filter and the upgrade of an existing exhaust fan.

The work includes converting an existing 740,000m³/hr ESP unit downstream of the kiln and raw mills of Line 1 to a bag filter. The conversion will abide to the current footprint on foundations with the minimum impact on steel structures, ducting and dust transport system. The new filter will reduce the emission limits below 10mg/Nm³ by June 2019. The intention is to meet new government regulations quickly. The unit will also be equipped with CTP’s SWAP technology for the cleaning of bags with low-pressure compressed air. CTP Team will work with local partner Shinco Industrial Equipment on the project. No value for the deal has been disclosed.

India: The board of ACC has approved plans to build a new cement plant at Ametha, District Katnl in Madhya Pradesh. The unit will have a clinker production capacity of 3Mt/yr and a cement production capacity of 1Mt/yr. The subsidiary of Switzerland’s LafargeHolcim plans to expand a 1.6Mt/yr grinding plant at Tikaria, Uttar Pradesh and a 2.2Mt/yr grinding plant also in Uttar Pradesh. The board also agreed to build a 1.1Mt/yr grinding plant at an existing unit at Sindri in Jharkhand. The projects are expected to cost around US$417m.

Slovenia: Salonit Anhovo has spent Euro10m towards upgrades at its Anhovo cement plant. Most of the funding went towards automation and environmental works, according to the Slovenian Press Agency. The unit built new cement silos, set up devices to reduce NO_x emissions, purchased new machinery for its quarry, reduced noise levels and upgraded its business information system. The company has also started to replace asbestos roofing on an old building and started demolishing disused buildings. These two last projects are valued at around Euro3m and are expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

Philippines: China’s Huaxin Cement is preparing to sign a US$245m engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Holcim Philippines to build a new production line at its Davao plant. The Kalayaan 2 project includes a 6000t/day clinker production line, a 7MW waste heat recovery unit and upgrades to a 3000t/day production line. The contract follows a previous project between the companies on a mill at the plant.

Vietnam: Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved an upgrade to the Long Son cement plant in Thanh Hoa province. The plant will have two new production lines with a total production capacity of 2.3Mt/yr, according to the Viet Nam News newspaper. The new lines will also include waste treatment systems. Line 3 is expected to begin operation in 2020 and line 4 in 2021. The Ministry of Construction has been assigned to work with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the provincial People’s Committee to supervise the project.

Oman: Raysut Cement Company has ordered a waste heat recovery unit from China’s Sinoma. No cost for the deal or an expected timescale has been disclosed. The company says it is the first of its kind in the country. Once completed it is expected to reduce the company’s power costs at its plant by up to 30%.

Philippines: Holcim Philippines plans to invest nearly US$300m towards increasing its production capacity by 30% to 13Mt/yr by 2020. It will upgrade its plants at Bulacan and Misamis Oriental with the installation of new kilns, mills and waste heat recovery systems. The upgrades are intended to support the country’s economic development and strong construction sector.

“Our capacity expansion ensures that we can provide a steady supply of quality building materials to support the government’s infrastructure program and the resulting construction activity from the economy’s sustained rise,” said John Stull, Holcim Philippines president and chief executive officer (CEO).

The projects are part of a series of capacity and productivity investments that Holcim Philippines started in 2012 with the rehabilitation of its grinding plant in Mabini, Batangas. This was followed by debottlenecking of plants in 2015 and expansion projects in La Union and Davao that are set to be completed in 2019.

Russia: Eurocement is upgrading its Kavkazcement plant in a Euro13m project until May 2019. Production will continue throughout out the work. The plant is preparing to increase cement production in 2019 by refurbishing kilns that were not used in 2018. The clinker cooler and a static grid will be installed in January 2019. From February to May 2019 work on the plant’s raw material lines and cement mills will be conducted. In addition selected buildings at the site will be replaced.

US: Mississippi Lime Company plans to ‘significantly’ increase enhanced hydrated lime capacities at its Weirton, West Virginia and Verona, Kentucky plants. It also manufactures hydrated lime products from its Ste Genevieve, Missouri, Vicksburg, Mississippi and Chester, South Carolina operations. The company produces high calcium quicklime, hydrated lime and calcium carbonate.

Denmark: Dankalk is upgrading the lime hydrator at its Aggersund plant. A new KLV 02/630-4.0 type lime hydrator is being supplied by Germany’s Gebr. Pfeiffer. It is being replaced from a previous Gebr. Pfeiffer model installed in the 1980s due to tighter emission limits. Commissioning of the new lime hydrator is scheduled for mid-2019.
