Cambodia: Aidan Lynam, the chief executive officer of Chip Mong Insee Cement, expects that the Kampot cement plant will sell its first cement by the end of 2017. The US$262m plant is about to be commissioned, according to the Phnom Penh Post newspaper. A ramp-up period will then follow, with full production levels at the unit expected by the end of the first quarter of 2018. The subsidiary of Thailand’s Siam Cement Group has also launched the Camel Cement brand, which will be produced at the new plant.
Holcim Vietnam renamed as Siam City Cement Vietnam
02 March 2017Vietnam: Holcim Vietnam has been officially renamed as Siam City Cement Vietnam following its acquisition by Thailand’s Siam City Cement. Holcim products will now be sold locally under the Insee brand, according to the Saigon Times. An agreement for Siam City Cement to buy LafargeHolcim’s 65% stake in Holcim Vietnam was announced in August 2016.
Jagdamba Cement rebrands Ordinary Portland Cement product
22 February 2017Nepal: Jagdamba Cement said that it has rebranded its Jagdamba Ultra Premium OPC Cement product with new packaging and appointed Bhusal Dahal as its brand ambassador. The cement producer added in a statement that its products can now compete with any international product available in Nepal, according to the República newspaper. It added that it has received NS 49, ISO 9001:2008, ISO 9001:2015/ISO 14001:2015 certifications as well as letter of appreciation 2014 and 2015 in NS Quality Awards.
Dalmia Cement Bharat backs new cement brand in Sri Lanka
31 January 2017Sri Lanka: India’s Dalmia Cement Bharat has partnered with local import firm Oliver Impex to launch the Vijaya Cement brand. The SLS 107 certified product has a strength class of 42.5 N, according to the Daily News newspaper. AHM Fowzie, the State Minister of National Integration and Reconciliation, was the chief guest at the launch event.
HR Cement launches Eco-Cem brand in New Zealand
24 January 2017New Zealand: HR Cement has launched Eco-Cem, a brand of pozzolanic cement. The cement producers says it will source its pozzolan from the Central Plateau on the North Island, according to the Scoop news website. The cement producer operates a cement grinding plant at Mt Maunganui near Tauranga. It also produces a Ordinary Portland Cement branded as HR Cement General Purpose (GP) Cement.
Army launches Sena cement brands in Bangladesh
17 January 2017Bangladesh: The Sena Kalyan Sangstha (SKS), a trust run by the Bangladesh Army, has launched 'Sena Cement and Sena LPG brand of cement at its Mongla Cement plant in Dhaka. Military and government officials also attended the event. The new cement brands are intended to grow the welfare activities of the SKS.
Competition body rejects Cemento Patriota brand registration request
16 December 2016Colombia: The Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC), Colombia's competition watchdog, has rejected a request made by Productora de Cementos to register its brand Cemento Patriota under Nice Classification. The initially approved submission was contested by Cementos Argos, according to La Republica newspaper. It argued that Cementos Patriota would infringe on its Cementos Uno A, Concretos Uno A and Agregados Uno A labels, because it reproduced the distinctive letter 'A' and number one of the accompanying graphic shared by all three brands. SIC ruled in favour of Cementos Argos, arguing that a side-by-side comparison shows visual similarities.
Holcim Lanka rebrands as Insee Cement
08 December 2016Sri Lanka: Holcim Lanka has been rebranded as Insee Cement following its acquisition by Thailand’s Siam City Cement. The company will continue to use its Sanstha and Mahaweli Marine brands of cement but it will also introduce Insee Pro, Insee Pro Plus and Insee Extra brands, according to the Daily Financial Times newspaper.
My Home Industries launches new logo
25 November 2016India: My Home Industries has launched a new logo for its flagship brand Maha Cement. “We have been around for nearly 18 years and our logo for our flagship brand Maha Cement has remained that of an old-style muscle man. But change is always required. The new logo has replaced the muscleman with a modern technician attesting for its quality,” said S Sambasiva Rao, Executive Director of My Home Industries in an interview with the New Indian Express newspaper. The joint venture between India’s My Home Group and Ireland’s CRH is expanding its business and building a 1.2Mt/yr plant at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu.
Sarbottam launches cement brands in Nepal
15 September 2016Nepal: Sarbottam Cement, part of the Saurabh Group, has launched its Ordinary Portland Cement and Portland Slag Cement brands. The company operates a 0.4Mt/yr cement grinding plant at Ramnagar.
