Holcim US updates branding in Greater Chicago Area
03 November 2023US: Holcim US has rolled out its own Holcim US brand across its operations in the Greater Chicago Area, which previously bore Lafarge branding. The operations include cement terminals and the South Chicago slag grinding plant. 400 people work for Holcim across the Greater Chicago Area.
Holcim US senior vice president and general manager, North Central Region, Randy Gaworski said “Right in the backyard of our company headquarters, we’re excited the Greater Chicago Area operations will now be recognised as Holcim. Customers will continue to experience the same quality products and services they expect from us today, but now have access to a larger network of services and innovation.”
China: China Resources Cement (CRC) has rebranded to China Resources Building Materials Technology (CRBMT). The producer says that this reflects its business positioning and development strategy, and marks the launch of its transformation into a building materials group around its existing cement business.
Hanson UK becomes Heidelberg Materials UK
02 October 2023UK: Germany-based Heidelberg Materials has introduced customers and investors to Heidelberg Materials UK, its UK subsidiary formerly known as Hanson UK. The latest rebrand signifies increasing collaboration across the group’s geographies as a global business with one voice. Heidelberg Materials UK will launch rebranded packaging for its cement and other products in early 2024 and transition its branding across its sites and vehicles by October 2025.
Heidelberg Materials UK CEO Simon Willis said “The construction sector faces global challenges such as climate change and the digitalisation of our industry; challenges we are better placed to meet as a strong, united group. Having a single brand name and identity sends a clear and consistent message to our increasingly global customers.” Willis added “It will allow us to work together to lead the field in driving down carbon emissions; promote the circular economy by recycling and reusing construction waste; develop digital solutions to provide added value to our customers and develop sustainable and innovative building materials.”
Suez Cement becomes Heidelberg Materials
12 September 2023Egypt: Suez Cement says that it has ‘merged its legacy’ with that of parent company Heidelberg Materials by adopting the latter’s name. Specifically, the replacement of ‘cement’ with ‘materials’ is intended to underline its pioneering role in the path to carbon neutrality and digitalisation, according to the company.
Chief executive officer Mohamed Hegazy said “We have always been and will continue to be a company that is much more than cement. We are progressive minds with the ambition to drive transformation. We push the boundaries to strengthen innovation and deepen partnerships with our customers and other stakeholders.”
W&P Zement becomes Alpacem Zement Austria
08 August 2023Austria: Alpacem's Austrian subsidiary W&P Zement has announced its rebranding to Alpacem Zement Austria. Alpacem said that the rebrand in Austria will be the first step of a roll-out of the Alpacem brand across its local subsidiaries.
Alpacem has subsidiaries in Austria, Italy and Slovenia.
Nigeria: Lafarge Africa has applied to the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to use the product name Roadcem for its CEM-II Portland limestone cement (PLC) when sold in bulk. The Nigeria Tribune newspaper has reported that Lafarge Africa supplies PLC in bulk for use as a soil stabiliser in roadbuilding. It sells supplies the product bagged to retailers as Classic PLC.
SON certified Lafarge Africa's PLC under its Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme.
Salonit Anhovo to become Alpacem Cement Slovenia
19 July 2023Slovenia: Salonit Anhovo has announced a planned name change to Alpacem Cement Slovenia. STAkrog News has reported that the inclusion of the word ‘Slovenia’ will require special government approval. The company said that Alpacem better reflects its ownership, while Cement reflects its core activity.
Salonit Anhovo is 75% owned by Austria-based Wietersdorfer Alpacem and 25% owned by Italy-based Buzzi.
Germany: Lubrication supplier Fuchs has embarked on a global marketing campaign to grow its brand awareness. The ‘Moving Your World’ initiative is using out-of-home advertising at 12 international airports in five continents to increase visibility for the company. Earlier in the year the company changed its name from Fuchs Petrolub to Fuchs as part of the same process. The company is also targeting new products and services at electric vehicles, digitalisation and sustainability as parts of its Fuchs2025 future business strategy.
Tina Vogel, Vice President Corporate Marketing and Communications at Fuchs, commented "We're on the road to establishing a strong global brand. On this journey, we're placing great emphasis on establishing long-term partnerships and a brand that also reflects the trust people are placing in us. The emotional statement Moving Your World also describes our purpose and helps us stand out from the crowd, highlighting what we stand for and why we do what we do: keeping the world of our customers moving and advancing it ever forward." Fuchs worked with Hamburg-based strategy and technology consultancy Clue One on the campaign.
Lafarge Africa launches Eco Label cement brand
28 June 2023Nigeria: Lafarge Africa has launched the Eco Label brand, as part of its wider UniCem brand, to promote its sustainable products. Products within the new branding have a lower 30% carbon footprint compared to the local industry standard. The formal unveiling of the new branding took place at the Mfamosing cement plant in Calabar.
Khaled El Dokani, the chief executive officer of Lafarge Africa, said “Lafarge Africa is proud to be the first local cement manufacturer of eco-friendly cement to the Nigerian market. With the rollout of this Eco brand, we are accelerating the transition to more sustainable building materials for greener construction.”
Buzzi Unicem rebrands as Buzzi
14 June 2023Italy: Buzzi Unicem has announced a change of its name to Buzzi from 1 June 2023. The company has retained its blue U-shaped logo with the Buzzi name at its centre. Subsidiaries’ names will continue to appear in text alongside the logo. The group said that this enables each company to capitalise on its assets, while reaffirming the vision of a common identity.
